Lightbulb moments

There is a moment in therapy that can be hard to describe until you have felt it. It’s like someone switches on a light in a dark room that you didn’t even know existed inside you. One minute, you are talking about something that’s always felt “normal” and then the next moment, click. And that is when you realize: Oh. That’s where that came from.
It’s a lightbulb moment.
It’s clarity.
It’s that feeling of the puzzle pieces finally falling into place after years of not even knowing you were trying to solve something.
My experience of therapy is that it gently peels back the layers. It has helped me revisit the past not to get stuck there, but to finally understand it. And it is in that understanding that I have found healing. These lightbulb moments are more than just realizations, they are emotional breakthroughs. They have changed how I see myself and helped turn blame into compassion, confusion into understanding, and shame into peace.
Sometimes healing isn’t loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s in those quiet moments when your heart whispers, “Now I get it.”
I had a fairly large lightbulb moment a couple of weeks ago. It was completely random. I was doing my hair and out of nowhere my mind just hit me and it hit me hard. I have had many sessions over the last 5 years on this specific topic and my therapist has asked me many times where I think it came from and we have done a lot of hard work in this area of my life. So I was so excited to go into my next session to share this bright lightbulb moment and continue on with my healing. The curious kid in me always wants things to make sense, I just always want to understand so these moments are comforting even when they are painful and a lot to process and unpack.
I hope you are able to hear those whispers in your own journey and that in those moments you are also able to find healing.
Thank you for being here 💕
